My goal with this artwork was to get the shapes of the shadows and my face as accurate as possible. I accomplished this by using different techniques such as turning the original photo sideways in order to get past any mental blocks of this piece. What surprised me the most with this drawing was how it was more difficult than I thought it would be to get everything as accurate as possible. This was also my most difficult challenge along with getting past mental blocks. I confronted this challenge by turning my original photo sideways to get a different perspective. My brain switched from the right side to the left side when I did this. My drawing really "works" around the shadow of the nose going to the side of my face and also my lips. Some things I learned are how to get past mental blocks and figure out how to make certain shades of grey and black to make the piece look complete. I learned from Grace on how to make the lips look really realistic. If I could have done this over again, I would've taken more time and completed a charcoal piece instead of finishing my sketch in my sketchbook. I feel the best thing about my work is the shapes of the shadows and light.
